Hiroshima, Japan (October, 2013)

Sadly Hiroshima is best known as the first city in history to be targeted by the atomic bomb. The only building left after the impact of the bomb is the Genbaku Dome (also known as A-Bomb Dome) and is the primary landmark around the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park which was created around it. The park includes various monuments and the Peace Memorial Museum which is very touching and I do recommend a visit.    It is nice to see that Hiroshima recovered after the bomb and that it is now a vibrant and modern city and trees and plants are growing again.  Food tip: Try okonomiyaki, a speciality of Hiroshima, a savoury pancake filled with cabbage, onions and grilled meats or seafood of your choice. Topped off with a barbecue-style sauce - yum!  Genbaku Dome Ota river Children's Peace Monument Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum with Peace Flame in the background From inside the museum: photos of Hiroshima after the A-bomb
